Michael and the AAMB Board and staff, would like to thank  Judge Kelly Evans, and Judge Alfred Jenkins for their selfless contribution and countless hours of service and expertise given in support of leading and advising the Foundation as outgoing Executive Board  President and Treasurer. These two incredibly gifted, wise and resourceful men will be sincerely missed.

Organizational growth can be bitter and sweet; and while we feel saddened by the departure of our life long friends, Judge Evans and Judge Jenkins; we also feel encourged by the new and strengthed relationships this
present growth spurt  has brought.

Friends and supporters, AAMB Harvest Foundation is pleased to announce our latest Executive Board appointments:

Rev. Freddie Dixon,
Executive Board Member

Dr. Greg Vincent, New Board Chair

Ms. Jackie Hawkins, Executive Board Member

Heartfelt Thanks From Our Hearts to Yours

    "Welcome to December" - what?!!

Can you believe 2011 has come and gone? Some of us have put on a little weight, others have dropped it; new marriages, new babies, new jobs; some lost...lost loved ones and gained new perspective; some lost homes, other possessions and income; deployed troops returned home, families reconciled; prayers continue to be uttered in faith - May all of us be thankful!!

As long as we are aware of the ups and downs, the joy and pain...THAT'S LIFE and life is a good place to be - so be grateful and alive in your NOW! Now can only be lived once. Give it your best - your best is good enough!

That said, the entire AAMB Havest Foundation Family wants to say thanks to all of you - thanks for opening and deleting our emails...LOL!!! Thanks for calling us to talk; thanks for stopping in for no reason; thanks for volunteering at our conferences and other community events; thanks for your financial support and charitable-volunteerism. And most of all - thanks for being you, and letting us be who we are...we haven't arrived, you know that well and inspite of - you continue to beleive in us and support us through thick and thin....thanks, thanks, thanks!!

We care, and thank you for caring - Happy Holidays!!!

End of Year Highlights

People love a good end-of-year countdown! In combating educational, health, economic and quality of life disparities among Austin's most disadvantaged populations, we are proud to count down the following accomplishments of the African American Men and Boys Harvest Foundation for 2011:

+Over 1,500 youth and family members served

+897 volunteer hours spent enriching the lives of those in need

+60 workshops delivered to build character, life skills and college awareness

+81 youth and community volunteers painted 30 rooms at an assisted living facility impacting 40 residents

+1 African American Youth Resource Center established to serve over 4,000 more community members in 2012!

As we sum up the impact and progress that we made in 2011, we are also looking ahead into a New Year in which our programs will reach at least three times more high-need youth and families, and we are realizing a need for additional financial contributions from generous individuals like you to support this growth.

Please consider making a tax-decuctible donation to the the Harvest Foundation, as the year nears to a close. No charitible git is too large or too small - Give Today!!

Meet Our Newest Hire -  Ms. Alex Overton!!!

Alexandria Overton was raised in Hutto, Texas. She attended Southwestern University in Georgetown where she received a B.A in Sociology and Communication Studies as well as her passion for social justice. Working and Volunteering throughout college at several non-profit organizations she gained an overwhelming consciousness of the social problems that besieged her community and those surrounding. Going on to conduct field research on the anti-violence movement, her senior thesis, "They Laughed at Me: An Analysis of Men in the Domestic Violence movement" was highly recognized and submitted to the Southern Sociological Society.  Living by the motto "Those who are lifting the world upward and onward are those who encourage more than criticize", Alexandria continued her charitable efforts after college. She also began substitute teaching in A.I.S.D where she quickly discovered a need she wanted to fulfill. Now as the Youth Recruitment Coordinator at the African American Men & Boys Harvest Foundation, Alex is working to fulfill those needs and thriving in her passion to help others.  Alex is excited about the launch of her new program, 'Ivy Dolls',  a mentoring group catering to teenage girls, implementing the idea that they can be "Ivy League" young women; women who will exude prestige, demand respect, be cognizant of their worth and be held to high standards. Her knowledge, aptitude and enthusiasm make her a great asset to our organization and we are excited to welcome her to the African American Men & Boys Harvest Foundation Family!
